St James Tuesday Craft Club – 10am
The club was founded in 2,000 by Nola, Shirlie, Jenny & June. Since then it has become as diverse as the people in it with mothers & daughters, good friends & new good friends. From patchwork & quilting to knitting animals, soft toys & chooks to raise money for “Relay for Life”, crocheting, embroidery, tapestry & whatever else takes the fancy. Knowledge & skills are shared, laughter & good times are compulsory, doing something or nothing in great company, everyone gets back much more than they give. Family, friends, fetes & charities benefit from the labours of love produced by our group.
A new technique is learnt at the Tumut retreat each year. This year it was landscape quilting. Shirlie & daughter Karen are regular participants, with Karen treasuring the special time she gets to spend with her mother who loves these classes & other group projects. Everyone heads home with a well-developed project ready for show & tell at the next gathering.
Why do we come to Tuesday’s group? It has a happy, enjoyable & inviting atmosphere where we can share our successes & challenges (someone will have the answer) then see the beautiful work created by the talented people within the group. Nola still comes not only because she’s addicted, but because she has the key.
As Irene put it…….we talk, we laugh, we cry & we learn…..never a dull moment. And Rowena summed it up with “I love Tuesdays”.
See YOU next Tuesday at 10:00am
Friends in Action
A group whose aim is to provide a social outlet and support network for its members. This encompasses learning, in that we visit local towns, galleries, gardens and small sustainable businesses or invite guest speakers and demonstrators to member’s homes. Relaxation and having fun is at the core of our activities.
We eat out in the warmer months. Winter indoor activities usually involve a ‘bring and share’ lunch. There is a focus on food that is not just about ourselves. We assist people in need by supplying the Parish Food Bank with items and cash, collecting from members at the monthly (Second Wednesday) outings. Our raffles, annual membership fee of $10 and outside donations, enable us to also make bi-yearly gifts to the Food Bank.
There are 28 members – including a committee of 4 and 3 other members volunteering in key roles. Members with access to email are kept abreast of all news on a regular basis. This enables communication of illness or accident etc so members are aware of others’ needs, in addition to up-coming events. A diary is nutted out at the Jindera Hotel every January where members make suggestions of activities and places to visit.
Although Jindera-based with an AGM and church service at St Paul’s each February, we are a bunch of people from anywhere in the area. Members are welcome to bring along mothers, daughters, friends, any time, without commitment. Many people then find themselves regulars! The group is somewhat noisy, enthusiastic and non-regimented- befitting a circle of friends. Our aim is to share the abundance we experience between ourselves and others less fortunate.
